That’s what friends are for

May 8, 2007

I can’t tell you enough how awesome my best friend is. We’ve known each other for 16 years and each week, she gets more and more awesome.

Tuesday nights are our night to talk. She calls me on her commute home from work and it’s just really nice to chat with her. Sometimes, I need to talk, sometimes it’s her, sometimes (like tonight), it’s both of us, and there is the rare occasion where we have nothing to say. Still, we talk every week. We really only started doing that a year or so ago, but it’s been a nice ritual and something to look forward to each week.

She has all the qualities of a great friend — she’s intuitive, a great listener, shares her opinion without giving advice, and will tell me when I’m making a stupid choice (save for the marrying my ex, but we have a deal now on all future potential mates).

She and I are so much alike — great at remembering birthdays and anniversaries, not so great about being punctual about them. We love music, coffee, relaxing with a good book…. We are also so different — she loves cats where I would rather see one strung up on a clothesline (although I do not condone the harming of animals in any way), she is more introverted and I am more of an extrovert, and she has loads more common sense than I.

I love her and she never fails to bring sunshine to the cloudiest of days — even when she brings her own clouds along. There’s always a rainbow in there somewhere.
